A Da Nang restaurant joins the world’s “culinary library of excellence”

La Maison 1888 in Da Nang, nestled within InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, has been listed by The World's 50 Best Restaurants in its 50 Best Discovery selection – often described as a “library of excellence” bringing together outstanding dining destinations worldwide. The list is compiled from nominations by more than 1,000 international experts, chefs and food critics.

Becoming Da Nang’s representative in this prestigious system, following the award of one Michelin star, signals that the restaurant has surpassed rigorous standards in technique, creativity and overall guest experience to earn its place on the global culinary map.

Chef Christian Le Squer, holder of three Michelin stars – the creator of French “haute couture” gastronomy at La Maison 1888

Located within InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, La Maison 1888 is introduced by 50 Best as the first restaurant in Vietnam to be nominally led by a three-Michelin-star chef. The current culinary “soul” is Chef Christian Le Squer – the name behind the prestige of Le Cinq. He showcases masterful technique through a diverse menu spanning vegetarian cuisine, à la carte selections and a seven-course set menu, distinguished by surprising juxtapositions of texture and flavour.

“From chilled pistachio cream with refreshing citrus notes, richly flavoured Brittany blue lobster soup, to lightly marinated tomatoes infused with dill or silky scallops paired with cauliflower cream and caviar, each dish reflects Christian Le Squer’s finesse in handling premium ingredients,” 50 Best describes. According to the organisation, it is precisely this deliberate contrast in textures and flavours that creates the restaurant’s distinctive identity.

Beyond the cuisine, the experience is elevated by a French colonial Indochine-style mansion designed by Bill Bensley, an internationally certified wine cellar and sweeping views overlooking the Son Tra Peninsula. The harmony of architecture, landscape and refined service has positioned La Maison 1888 as a fine dining icon of central Vietnam.

Not limited to La Maison 1888, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is also known for housing one of Vietnam’s leading F&B systems, with a diverse portfolio of restaurants and bars: from the iconic “upside-down” conical hats at Citron, to the beachfront lounge setting at Barefoot, and Japanese omakase cuisine at Tingara. Consistent investment in international service standards and distinctive design concepts has created a complete culinary ecosystem, where each venue represents a unique yet harmonious expression of excellence.

Previously, the restaurant maintained its Michelin star for multiple years and received the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator for its wine cellar, while consistently appearing in prestigious international dining rankings. Its inclusion in World’s 50 Best Discovery not only reaffirms the sustained excellence of La Maison 1888, but also establishes it as an ambassador helping Da Nang leave its mark on the global map of high-end culinary tourism.
