Contributions of Vietnamese Journalism Honored

Dien Hong Awards are of great significance, based on Conclusion 1295-KL/DDQH15 dated December 23, 2022 of the Party Union of the National Assembly. Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly established a steering committee for the National Press Awards on the National Assembly and the People's Councils (Dien Hong Awards) led by Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo Member, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly. At the same time, the Office of the National Assembly was assigned to lead and work with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, and Vietnam Television to organize the annual Dien Hong Awards.

After more than four months, the first Dien Hong Awards received 3,328 works from 171 domestic and international press agencies and seven Offices of the National Assembly and the People's Councils. The above figures proved the magnet of Dien Hong Awards to the media and society, both nationally and internationally.

The Judging Panel consisted of reputable, experienced journalists who worked fairly and objectively to select 67 excellent works as winners, including five Prize A, 13 Prize B, 16 Prize C, 31 consolation prizes, and two prizes beyond the scope. In addition, the Organizing Committee selected and awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the National Assembly Office to 20 outstanding teams that made important contributions to the success of the first Dien Hong Awards in 2023.

Candidate works selected for Dien Hong Awards were high-quality products. Their content vividly highlighted the theme of Dien Hong Awards.

Many products illustrated the process of improving and reforming the organization and operation of the National Assembly and the People's Councils; closely followed the breath of life, reflected thoughts and aspirations of the people, proposed plans for improving the quality and performance of elected bodies; highlighted the position and role of the National Assembly and the People's Councils, with a focus on their activities with strong influences on society and the public.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized, inheriting and promoting the 77-year glorious tradition of the National Assembly of Vietnam, under the leadership of the Party, the 15th National Assembly has continued to make efforts to renew and improve the quality of its operations by enhancing democracy, professionalism and the rule of law, achieving many important and comprehensive results in legislation, supreme supervision and important issues of the country. In the localities, activities of the People's Councils at all levels have also been renewed comprehensively, robustly, responsibly, practically, effectively and efficiently.

The comprehensive, persistent and creative contribution of the press is one of the great sources of encouragement for the National Assembly and the People's Councils to enhance their position, strength and prestige. With its role as an important bridge and a close link for elected bodies with the people and voters nationwide, the press has increasingly proved itself as a worthy collective propagandist, collective cheerleader and collective organizer as well as a channel of intellectual and responsible criticism to the country.

The press and media system has actively propagated and promoted in a comprehensive and timely manner to help implement Party guidelines and policies institutionalized by the National Assembly and the People's Councils with decisions and action movements across the country. At the same time, they have reflected truthfully and vividly legitimate thoughts and aspirations of branches, classes, voters, and people nationwide and our compatriots abroad to the National Assembly and the People's Councils. They are also an important and reliable channel for the people to monitor elected bodies and elected deputies.

News agencies, reporters and editors accompany and commit themselves to activities of the National Assembly and the People's Councils, not only with their responsibility but also with their affection, enthusiasm, passion, and innovation, thus continuously making inclusive progress and growth.

The crystallization of dedication, responsibility, and love for the profession

According to National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, it is very delightful that, right after its announcement, the Dien Hong Awards attracted wide attention from all classes of people, the active response of domestic and international press agencies, journalist associations, and journalists.

Candidate products are the crystallization of devotion, responsibility, passion for the profession, faith and sincere feelings of writers and cameramen towards representative bodies. The attractiveness and far-reaching effect of candidate products increasingly confirm the great support of both the political system and the entire people for the Vietnamese revolutionary press on the century-long glorious journey with the nation under the flag of the Party.

From the splendid tradition, with the support and help of all levels of Party, government, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations and the people, Chairman Hue expressed his belief in the nonstop development, more important and greater contributions of the revolutionary press for the construction and development of the National Assembly and the People's Councils to deserve the trust and entrustment of the people.

It is always difficult to start a new thing, he stressed. From the success of the first Dien Hong Awards, with the ‘Dien Hong’ spirit (all are united), NA Chairman Hue expected that the award will continue to receive great consensus and support to open up a new horizon for findings, discoveries and creations at a new level of the press and domestic and foreign writers writing about the National Assembly of Vietnam and the People's Councils.

After the Award Ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, Head of the Steering Committee of the Dien Hong Awards, launched the second Dien Hong Awards.

The second Dien Hong Awards ceremony is expected to be held in early January 2024 on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the first General Election that elected the National Assembly of Vietnam (January 6, 1946 - January 6, 2024).
