Developing Tourism into Spearhead Economic Sector

Being a northern mountainous province of Vietnam, Lang Son province has a long culture and history built from many traditional relics, beliefs, spirituality, charming landscapes and festivals bearing local distinctive identity. To develop these untapped resources and advantages for tourism development, Lang Son province directed and issued many policies for developing tourism into a key economic sector.

Over the past years, the province has strongly focused investment for building technical infrastructure and transport infrastructure, upgrading tourist sites and destinations to unlock tourism potential and develop tourist routes and attractions; and actively called for and attracted investors from various economic sectors to invest in tourism. Currently, the province has formed tourist service complexes, upmarket shopping and entertainment centers such as Mega Apec Center - a commercial and service complex in Lang Son City; Ho Lau Xa ecological resort and entertainment area in Mai Pha commune, Lang Son City and Yen Trach commune, Cao Loc district; and an ecological leisure, entertainment and sports center in Chi Lang district. The province has gradually invested in Bac Son special national relic site, and other historical and cultural relics in Lang Son City, Chi Lang district and Bac Son district.

Particularly, Mau Son tourist site, approved by the Prime Minister, is being developed by Lang Son province into a complex of tourist convalescence, entertainment, ecotourism, cultural and spiritual tourism of the northern mountainous region and the country by 2040. This upland project is considered the driving force for tourism development of the province and for economic growth.

Entering a new development stage, Lang Son province targeted to make tourism an important economic sector by 2025 and a key economic sector by 2030. In particular, by 2025, it will attract over 4.4 million tourists and make revenue over VND5,200 billion. The province has about 5,400 hotel rooms, including 1,100 rooms rated 3-5 star standards. Over 15,000 workers are in the tourism sector, including 7,000 full-time workers. Lang Son is home to one national tourist site (Mau Son National Tourist Area), 2 - 4 provincial tourist sites, 8-10 tourist attractions and 4 - 6 community tourism sites.

To do this, the Lang Son tourism industry will concentrate on carrying out tasks and solutions to prepare for the new stage of development and create breakthroughs for Lang Son tourism.  The sector will effectively carry out the Lang Son tourism development project to 2030; build tourism promotion mechanisms and policies; train and develop qualified human resources to meet development and integration requirements; step up administrative reform, create an open, competitive environment and adopt investment incentive policies for organizations and individuals to develop tourism; mobilize investment resources for tourism infrastructure and connect and develop tourist centers, sites, spots and routes.

Besides, the province will develop tourism products and markets, improve the quality of tourism services, and enhance tourism promotion; diversify tourism products, prioritize cultural tourism, historical tourism, festivals, ecotourism, leisure tourism, sports tourism, entertainment, border tourism and community tourism. It will also reinvest in conservation and promotion of cultural heritage values, natural landscapes, environmental protection and sustainable development.
