Trekking to Lao Than peak
Lao Than, one of the peaks dubbed "the most magnificent cloud paradise in the North," is well-known to those who are passionate about the mountains and forests of the Northwest. You have to climb and stand in the middle of an area where it looks like the boundaries between the actual world and the dream realm are blurred in order to reach this location.
Lao Than peak is located 80 kilometers from Sa Pa town in the Phin Ho hamlet of Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province.
Lao Than peak is located 80 kilometers from Sa Pa town in the Phin Ho hamlet of Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. Lao Than, the fourteenth-tallest mountain in Vietnam, stands 2,862 meters high and is referred to as Y Ty’s roof.
According to what we have previously learnt, getting to Lao Than peak is not particularly challenging, as compared to other peaks in the Hoang Lien range and the province of Lao Cai. There are around 15 miles of uphill and downhill trekking on this route. The road to Lao Than peak is considered to be of medium difficulty, making it acceptable for novice hikers. Before deciding to climb this mountain, you must, however, exercise extreme caution and become familiar with your capabilities.
There is some worry since the fog will impede your view and there is a good probability you won't be able to see the clouds as you had hoped. The landscape is poetic, airy, wild, and enchanting due to the road's predominant topography of barren hills, grasslands, and scarce trees. We passed through a brief area of thinly forested land with dry, fern-covered stumps whose colors shifted like those in a fairy garden. The path from the mountain's base to the shack is primarily made up of empty hills after this woodland. Wildflowers in white carpet the slopes. The blazing grass, dried tree trunks, and dried ferns that extend far into the field give the impression that we are in another country.

Around 4 or 5 p.m., the flimsy sunbeams broke through the dense fog before vanishing. There is no sunset and a white fog. I'm surrounded by the long-overdue fresh mountain air.
In all four seasons of the year, travelers can plainly see the ocean of clouds moving there, making Y Ty commune a particularly well-liked gathering place for cloud hunters. The best time to travel is from November through February of the following year. Between September and October, you may view the lush, golden terraced fields that blanket the hillsides. I want to visit Lao Cai province often because of the scenery in Y Ty, the entire Bat Xat region, and many other sites. The best method, in my opinion, to experience the wild nature and unwind after the first day is to spend two days and one night at Lao Than Peak.
The huge, empty area gradually became dark. The porters had been divided in half; their familiarity with the terrain had made it easier for them to carry the weight. The second half headed to the furnace to follow our sluggish group, leading the way, while the first half went to the shack to start dinner for the group. They saved us from getting lost and having a bad experience.
They must get the appropriate items before leaving, including a T-shirt, a jacket, a warm shirt, hiking boots, turtleneck socks, a waterproof rucksack, a flashlight, a cap, a raincoat, bug repellent, and painkillers.
We cooked meat on the grill, had dinner, and slept at the shack before leaving the following day. Lao Than experiences temperature decreases of nearly 15 degrees at night and in the early morning hours. Every now and then, the wind howls. You may truly experience the mystique and opacity of the mountains if you spend the night there. A starry night sky is a forecast for better weather the next day.
We had to begin the ascent the following morning at 4 a.m. in order to see the dawn. We were all eager to witness the moment the sun rose over the ocean of clouds, so even though the road was dark, we were all excited. The route from the shack to the top was more challenging; in the dim illumination, we had to navigate so many steep inclines that I briefly felt out of breath.

We could see an ocean of white clouds drifting in front of our eyes as it became brighter. Even though it was difficult to move, the sensation of "walking on clouds" made our legs seem lighter.
In the whirling wind and honey-drizzling sun, we check in at the Lao Than top point. The surreal spectacle that is playing out in front of you is a just reward for your efforts. I deep-breathed the aroma of dew, grass, dirt, and mountains into my chest as I went. Take in the refreshing mountain air. Only the sky, wind, and sun are present here.
I regain my vitality on mountain hikes. I spent a few days walking back to the forest to refuel for new days after busy days at the keyboard, forgetting all the time.
