Exploring Viet Nam’s rural areas through multimedia lens

Amid the flow of the digital era, technology is not only an inevitable trend but also a bridge connecting emotions. Recognising this, the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism’s Tourism Information Centre has recently launched a themed electronic publication titled “Rural tourism”, offering a vivid and immersive space for experiencing Viet Nam’s countryside.

A warm invitation from the Vietnamese countryside

According to the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism, moving beyond the limits of traditional printed pages, the e-brochure opens up a multidimensional world of experience. Through richly descriptive writing, readers seem to be guided into every corner of rural life, where each OCOP product and each traditional craft village carries its own unique story.

The “Rural Tourism” e-brochure currently includes four publications presented in two languages of Vietnamese and English. These electronic editions highlight diverse themes such as community and eco-tourism, craft village tourism, OCOP products, and organic agricultural cooperatives across the northern, central, and southern regions of the country.

The journey begins among the mist-covered mountain ranges of the majestic north-west. Here, visitors can sense the rich aroma of Son La Province coffee drifting through the vast forested highlands.

In “Lao Cai Province — where the senses awaken”, travellers can begin their exploration from features such as “There is a Mu Cang Chai waiting to be discovered” to “Ban Lien — an invitation from the heart of the mountains and forests”. These digital pages seem to unfold vibrant landscapes of rural Viet Nam before the viewer’s eyes. In every region, images of ethnic minority communities in colourful traditional costumes with intricate patterns shine vividly.

Leaving behind the undulating mountain ranges, visitors are led to tranquil countryside settings, where they can admire the skilled hands of artisans preserving unique silk-making techniques and producing exquisite ceramic works.

The exploration of rural Viet Nam then continues as travellers gently “glide” over calm waters, immersing themselves in the orchard tourism of the fertile Mekong Delta, where lush ecological gardens heavy with fruit welcome visitors throughout the year.

Visitors experience the landscape through multiple senses

The most distinctive feature of the “Rural Tourism” e-brochure lies in its integration of multimedia technology, creating an engaging multi-sensory experience. High-resolution images capture the simple beauty of rural labour and the sincere smiles of farmers.

Interwoven throughout are vivid video clips depicting scenes of Vietnamese countryside life. Viewers feel as if they are gliding through coconut-lined canals or gazing over vast mountain ranges through sweeping flycam perspectives. These authentic visual moments seem to erase geographical distance, inviting international travellers to explore rural Viet Nam.

Notably, the voice narration function provides visitors with an engaging companion throughout the journey of images and words. Users can read while listening to commentary guiding them through each destination.

Accompanying these visuals are natural soundscapes: the rhythmic clatter of daily activities, birds chirping among hillside trees, or the melodious strains of don ca tai tu (southern folk music) resonating across the vast waterways of the south. This vibrant sound environment enriches the digital travel experience like never before.

According to the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism, with a user-friendly interface optimised for devices ranging from mobile phones to computers, the “Rural Tourism” e-brochure represents not only a technological advancement but also a proud invitation showcasing the beauty of rural Viet Nam to visitors near and far.
