Sun World Hon Thom launches the world’s first next-gen water slide
Continuously renewing its experiences so visitors always have something new to discover each time they return to Phu Quoc, Sun World Hon Thom is adding a fresh lineup of entertainment products. These include the world’s first next-generation water slide at Aquatopia Water Park, along with a series of new games at Exotica Village, promising even more vibrant experiences for families this summer.
The highlight of this summer at Sun World Hon Thom is Wavy Whirl – Tropical Cyclone, a PowerRAPIDS attraction making its world debut.
While traditional water slides send riders plunging down by gravity, Wavy Whirl opens up a completely different experience: the water itself becomes the “director” of the entire journey. Riders sit on a single or multi-person raft and begin a “rapid-riding” adventure through ever-changing currents, which continuously create fast-flowing sections, unexpected turns, bursts of acceleration and powerful swirls before gently slowing again, as if winding through natural rapids.
Aquatopia Water Park on Hon Thom is the first place in the world to operate the next-generation PowerRAPIDS water slide.
What makes the ride especially exciting is that no two turns are the same. The raft can spin freely with the current, suddenly change direction or accelerate in ways riders cannot predict, making every experience feel new. Even on the same ride, guests sitting in different positions will enjoy completely different emotional highs.
Unlike thrill rides that focus only on speed or height, Wavy Whirl wins over riders through its unpredictability. No one knows where the next spin will take the raft, whether the water will push riders forward at speed or suddenly slow them down before sending them rushing ahead again. This element of surprise creates a sense of excitement throughout the journey, like conquering a natural waterfall.
According to Blooloop, an international magazine specializing in theme parks and the attractions industry, the debut of PowerRAPIDS at Hon Thom is not simply the addition of a new ride, but the opening of an “entirely new water ride category” for the water park industry.
Beyond its unique experience, Wavy Whirl is also designed to serve large numbers of visitors during the summer, with a capacity of up to 1,440 guests per hour. Each launch is only about 10–20 seconds apart, helping shorten waiting times and keep the fun flowing continuously, even during peak season.
After getting “soaked” with Wavy Whirl, the journey through Hon Thom still has plenty more to offer. At Exotica Village, besides iconic thrill rides such as Angry Wooden Snake and Eagle Eye, visitors can also enjoy a newly launched lineup of colorful games with names such as Crab Claw Dance, Rebellious Quail Eggs, Dragon God Carousel, Eagle’s Nest, Storm Voyage and Ladybug Battle. Each game has its own character, from speed challenges and tests of skill to lively activities suitable for families, groups of friends and active young children.
Alongside its constantly refreshed ride system, Hon Thom is also completing its all-day experience ecosystem, allowing visitors to enjoy both recreation and relaxation throughout the day. Here, guests begin their journey with the world’s longest three-wire cable car, an iconic work of southern Phu Quoc that opens up spectacular views over the An Thoi archipelago from above.
After lively hours at Aquatopia and Exotica Village, visitors can unwind at Santo Beach Club, a newly launched beachfront complex for leisure, dining and entertainment. With a tropical beach club atmosphere, a diverse culinary menu and two sea-facing infinity pools, it is an ideal spot to take in Phu Quoc’s famous sunset in full.

The combination of nature, iconic works and an ever-renewed chain of entertainment products that stay ahead of international industry trends is turning Hon Thom into a “must-visit” destination on the pearl island, with enough appeal to keep visitors engaged all day and give them even more reasons to return.
