Bac Ninh: Ensuring power supply for industrial parks and manufacturing

Recently, Bac Ninh Power Company has been intensifying efforts and making synchronized investments in power grid infrastructure and digital transformation to ensure a safe and uninterrupted electricity supply for industrial production.

Bac Ninh is one of the country’s most dynamic and important “industrial capitals.” With a high concentration of multinational corporations and modern industrial parks, energy demand in the province is not only growing rapidly but also requires stringent standards in terms of stability and power quality.

Representatives of the Power Grid Project Management Board, Bac Ninh Power Company, and related units witnessed the energization of the 110kV Da Mai Substation.

Fully aware of this strategic importance, Bac Ninh province and the power sector have been vigorously implementing synchronized solutions, ranging from upgrading power grid infrastructure and optimizing operational processes to developing flexible backup power supply plans.

Ensuring a stable power supply is not only a commitment to accompanying businesses, but also a crucial “key” for Bac Ninh to maintain its investment appeal and promote sustainable economic growth in the new era.

Mr. Bach Hong Quan, Deputy Director of Bac Ninh Power Company, shared that as the peak period of 2026 approaches, amid forecasts of a sudden surge in electricity demand, the company has proactively implemented a “one step ahead” strategy by synchronously deploying solutions ranging from infrastructure to technology, with a firm commitment to ensuring there is no disruption in energy supply under any scenario.

Strategic vision from modern infrastructure links

According to Mr. Quan, looking at Bac Ninh’s economic landscape in recent years, there has been a strong shift toward high-tech industry and smart services. As an inevitable result, electricity load demand is growing exponentially. To address this challenge, Bac Ninh Power Company has chosen not to “chase” demand, but to “anticipate” it through key, foundational infrastructure projects.

The most notable highlight is the energization and commissioning of the Da Mai 110kV Substation in late April 2026. This is not merely a technical project, but a strategic “bottleneck” being resolved at the right time. The station is invested at a 110/35/22kV scale, with a designed capacity of 2x40MVA, and in the first phase, one 40MVA transformer has been installed. The 110kV transmission line spans over 3.2km, built as a double-circuit configuration, using large cross-section conductors and integrated with lightning-protection optical fiber cables, ensuring high operational reliability. The Da Mai Substation acts as a new “heart”, injecting renewed capacity and strength into the regional power grid.

Technical staff inspect parameters and prepare to energize the 110kV Da Mai Substation.

The integration of a control and protection system based on the international IEC 61850 standard, along with SCADA connectivity, enables the substation to operate in an unmanned model. This represents a breakthrough in the digitalization roadmap, helping optimize manpower and improve accuracy in system dispatching. As electricity flows through the 3.2km double-circuit transmission line with large cross-section conductors, power losses are minimized, while also creating a safe “buffer zone” capable of load-sharing with neighboring substations that are already operating near full capacity.

Operational management: Flexibility and proactiveness in all scenarios

Beyond infrastructure investment, Bac Ninh Power Company has developed flexible operational approaches tailored to different load scenarios.

The N-1 principle (ensuring a backup solution is available when any single component fails) has been consistently implemented. Electrical engineers no longer wait for incidents to occur before responding. Instead, periodic inspections, testing, and clearance checks of transmission corridors have been completed ahead of the first heatwaves of the season.

On April 24, Bac Ninh Power Company organized a 2026 drill on disaster prevention and search and rescue, incident response, safety, and information technology.

Early “health checks” for the power grid help thoroughly address weak points, ensuring that when electricity demand from residents and businesses surges, the system continues to operate smoothly, safely, and stably.

Industry 4.0: The “eyes” on the power grid

In the digital era, manual experience-based grid management is gradually becoming obsolete. Bac Ninh is emerging as a bright spot in applying technology to “intelligently transform” the power grid. The use of drones and thermal cameras to inspect transmission lines is a clear demonstration of this innovative mindset.

These devices allow electrical workers to clearly inspect every joint and contact point at height - areas where the naked eye can hardly detect signs of overheating or cracking.

In addition, the remote monitoring system SCADA/DMS, combined with Big Data analytics, has enabled the power sector to forecast potential overload points before they actually occur. The integration of human expertise and technology has reduced incident response time from hours to just minutes, minimizing damage to industrial production lines that require extremely high continuity.

By applying digitalization in operations, Bac Ninh’s power sector is not only aiming to address localized shortages but also moving toward building a smart and flexible power grid system.

Customer partnership: An inseparable link in the chain

According to Mr. Bach Hong Quan, Deputy Director of Bac Ninh Power Company, a resilient power system does not rely solely on the efforts of the supplier, but is closely dependent on the behavior of users. Fully aware of this, Bac Ninh Power Company has launched a “making energy saving a habit” communication campaign with a new approach: more practical and deeper in impact.

The Demand Response (DR) program is a highly humane and economically efficient solution. By encouraging enterprises to shift production schedules away from peak hours, the power sector has reduced peak load pressure on the system while also helping businesses optimize electricity costs. The consensus of major industrial players in Bac Ninh to adjust their operational plans not only reflects a sense of community responsibility but also demonstrates strong confidence in the province’s electricity supply roadmap.

For residential areas, guidance on using inverter appliances, maximizing natural lighting, and setting air-conditioners at appropriate temperatures (not below 26°C) has become small but impactful actions, contributing to the protection and stability of the low-voltage power system in densely populated urban areas.

Looking at a broader perspective, Bac Ninh’s efforts to ensure power supply in 2026 are not only aimed at addressing peak demand during the hot season. They represent a strong commitment from the province to both domestic and foreign investors. An attractive investment environment is determined not only by mechanisms and policies but also by the stability of essential infrastructure. When electricity is maintained continuously, production lines for semiconductors and electronic components in industrial parks and clusters can operate without interruption. This, in turn, provides a solid foundation for the province’s GRDP growth.

Mr. Quan affirmed that Bac Ninh Power Company’s proactive “one step ahead” approach ahead of the 2026 summer peak is a model of modern infrastructure governance. It reflects a seamless combination of targeted investment, flexible operation, technology application, and social engagement. In the context of climate change and ongoing fluctuations in global energy demand, Bac Ninh’s approach serves as a key to maintaining economic momentum, ensuring social welfare, and reinforcing its position as one of the country’s leading industrial provinces.

The summer of 2026 may be extremely hot, but with thorough and early preparation, Bac Ninh’s electricity supply will remain smooth and reliable, reaching every household and production facility.
