SexTech is booming

Sex technology (SexTech) has been booming no less than any other field, but very few mainstream newspapers report on this issue.

SexTech isn't just about sexually satisfying products, but also medical advances in reproductive health.

SexTech seems very far away from real life until the COVID-19 pandemic breaks out.

Breakthrough technology

In the porn field, Virtual Reality (VR) has completely changed the experience of movies. Sex movies are no longer virtual, but become an interactive activity, bringing a feeling of real life.

With regards to sex toys, breakthroughs in design and materials technology help create sex dolls whose shapes are increasingly lifelike, silicon layers provide a tactile feel like human skin.

More than that, artificial intelligence (AI) brought a breakthrough intimacy. Abyss Creations is a pioneer in creating "personalities" for  each sex robot. They can talk all night, talking about Beethoven and Shakespeare; can remember birthdays, favorite foods, important events, and never refuse. However, according to their preferences, customers can choose a "partner" with a suitable personality.

However, SexTech isn't just about sexually satisfying products, but also medical advances in reproductive health. Doctors can implant spinal electrodes, which are a great solution for  people who have difficulty achieving orgasm. Or tools like "YO sperm test" that allows men to check sperm quality at home, the results will be displayed in detail through a mobile app.

Looking to the future, businesses are actively creating solutions to help remote couples connect with each other. Typically the sets of pillows, gloves, bracelets, double shirts, even sex toys that can capture movement, heart rate and transmit them to the other party, bring a sense of intimacy to eliminate distance.

Although little is mentioned in the media, technological advances in the sex market are remarkable, with innovative solutions and disruptive technologies.

Big push

From past to present, sex is a huge market. But until the COVID-19 epidemic breaks out, the SexTech market explodes strongly and comes into the light.

In 2020, a series of online sex toy retailers whose sales hit the ceiling: Nox increased 97%, Dame Products increased 30% ... Before the shutdown of the US government, the love toy store Babeland education saw customers jostle for  stockpiles of lubricants and condoms. These are also the two items with peak revenue each time the closing sessions ended.

Market survey firm Stratistics estimates that the "sexual health" market, which consists mainly of sex technologies, will reach $ 123 billion by 2026. And according to the "Future of Sex report", More than 25% of young people will experience a sexual sensation at a distance.

Popular retail chains such as Walmart and Urban Outfitters have entered the race by starting to publicly sell products such as lubricants and sex toys. Retail chains currently account for  10% of the sex toy distribution market.

North America remains the largest SexTech market, followed by Europe. The Asian and Oceania markets, despite being subject to many social prejudices, are also growing rapidly in recent years.

Change your mindset

To promote a scandalous industry like SexTech, a revolution in technology is never enough, but a revolution in thought. The hidden needs of customers already exist, and SexTech companies are working to "normalize" these needs.

Dissemination of the concept of "sexual health" is such a movement. Podcasts on reproductive health and Netflix movies on the subject of sexuality education are becoming more and more popular. Retail businesses list sex toy products under the “self-care” category. And activists are actively campaigning for  health organizations to see sex as an important element in general health.

In addition, many movements to redraw SexTech's image in the public eye have been carried out by porn sites like MakeLoveNotPorn and Pornhub. They call their mission "to revolutionize the clean porn industry", to ensure it does not break the law and is organized professionally. Even so, Pornhub is known as a regular sponsor  of environmental programs. With such efforts, SexTech is gaining more attention from investors. Especially during the COVID-19 crisis, SexTech is also one of the rare industries that have been booming. This shows that the normalization of SexTech is going very smoothly.
