Strengthening Vietnam - Pakistan Business Cooperation

VCCI Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh recently hosted a meeting with Ms Samina Mehtab, Ambassador of Pakistan to Vietnam, at VCCI Headquarters in Hanoi.

At the meeting, the Pakistani ambassador said that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Vietnam increased in the 2018 - 2022 period, reaching US$904 million in 2022. Specifically, the two countries cooperate in the textile and garment industry. In 2022, Pakistan imported nearly US$77 million worth of yarns from Vietnam and exported nearly US$100 million worth of fabrics, textiles, footwear, yarns and cotton to Vietnam.

“A number of large reputable companies in Pakistan are keen on investment in Vietnam. With its important role, VCCI can enhance the exchange of information about market and business partners in Vietnam for investors,” she said.

In the coming time, the 4th International Textile Exhibition (TEXPO) is expected to be organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) under the Ministry of Commerce from May 26 to 28, 2023 at Karachi Exhibition Center, Karachi, Pakistan. TEXPO exhibition is attended by Pakistani businesses engaged in leather garments, gloves, footwear, cotton, embroidery and lace, readymade garments, home linen, towel, hosiery art silk, sportswear and functional fabrics, lace and accessories and denim. She hoped that VCCI could help bring textile, garment and leather business delegations to this event.

VCCI Vice President Nguyen Quang Vinh said that although trade between Vietnam and Pakistan has tended to increase, there is still plenty of room for strong cooperation in the coming time. Currently, VCCI is working closely with the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS). VCCI will broadly inform textile, garment and leather companies about the 4th TEXPO to register their attendance.

The two countries can completely achieve the goal of US$1 billion of trade value this year, he said, suggesting that the embassy and partners of Pakistan strengthen cooperation with VCCI to discuss how to organize trade promotion workshops and direct business contacts to deepen cooperation.

“VCCI will continue to support and cooperate with the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to act as a bridge to help Vietnamese and Pakistani businesses connect more closely and bolster bilateral trade and investment cooperation in the future,” Vinh emphasized.
