The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of:
Comrade Doan Duy Thanh (birth name Doan Huu Tong, aliases: Thanh Duy, Thanh Linh, Thanh Tong), born on September 15, 1929; birthplace: Cong Hoa Commune, Kim Thanh District, Hai Duong Province (formerly), now Lai Khe Commune, Hai Phong City; permanent residence: 216 Doi Can Street, Ngoc Ha Ward, Hanoi City; participated in the July 1945 Revolution; joined the Party on October 15, 1946; Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Party in the 5th and 6th terms; National Assembly delegate in the 7th and 8th terms; former Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City; Minister of Foreign Trade, Minister of External Economic Relations (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade); Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management Research; President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now the Government).
After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated care and treatment from the Party, the State, a team of professors and doctors, and his family, due to his advanced age and frail health, Comrade passed away at 6:43 AM on February 6, 2026 (corresponding to the 19th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) at the Central Military Hospital 108, at the age of 97.
Throughout his revolutionary career, he made many contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the First-Class Independence Medal, the 80-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and awards by the Party and the State.
To express sorrow and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of Comrade Doan Duy Thanh, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to organize the funeral of Comrade Doan Duy Thanh with State funeral rites.

WORK EXPERIENCE
- In 1945: He participated in seizing power in Kim Thanh district, served as Secretary of the National Salvation Youth Union in Tuong Vu commune, and was a member of the District Youth Union Executive Committee in charge of one sub-district of the district.
- In 1946: He served as the Viet Minh Secretary of the commune, a Viet Minh cadre at the district level, the Secretary of the Cộng Hoà Commune Party Branch, and a cadre of the Kim Thành District Party Committee.
- 1947-1948: He served as a district Party committee official, and in November 1947, he became a district Party committee member in charge of 8 communes along Highway 5.
- From 1949 to June 1950: He was a Standing Committee member of the District Party Committee in charge of organization and inspection. In May 1949, he was assigned to be in charge of mass mobilization and served as the head of the Viet Minh in the district.
- In 1950: He served as Secretary of the Ngo Quyen District Party Committee and concurrently as Chairman of the District Resistance Committee.
- From September 1951 to November 1953: Comrade was arrested and imprisoned in Doan Xa, Hai Phong city, then exiled to Con Dao prison. Comrade remained actively involved and served as a Party committee member in the prisons.
- From November 1953: After his release from prison, the Hai Phong City Party Committee sent him for political re-education, where he continued his party activities and served as a research officer at the City Party Committee Office, and as the Secretary of the Party Branch of the City Party Committee Office.
- From February 1958 to April 1958: He served as Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department Store Company; Acting Director and Director of the Wholesale Department Store Company, Director of the Textile and Garment Company, and Secretary of the Company's Party Committee for three terms.
- From December 1961: He served as Deputy Head of the Handicraft Cooperative Union, and Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Handicrafts. In July 1964, he served as Acting Director and Director of the Department of Handicrafts, and Secretary of the Department's Party Committee.
- In 1968: He served as a member of the City Party Committee and Head of the Finance and Trade Department of the City Party Committee.
- In 1971: He served as a member of the City Party Committee, Head of the Industry Department, and concurrently Head of the Science and Technology Department.
- In 1974: He served as a City Party Committee member, Director of the Department of Commerce, and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Internal Trade establishments.
- In 1976: He served as a Standing Committee member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City.
- In 1979: He served as Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City.
- In February 1982, at the 5th National Party Congress: He was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party; in May 1982, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Party and Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee.
- From July 1986 to February 1987: He was a member of the Central Committee of the Party, a delegate to the 7th National Assembly, and Minister of Foreign Trade.

The Central Party Secretariat has decided to establish a State Funeral Committee consisting of 25 members, headed by Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister of the Government.
The coffin of Comrade Đoàn Duy Thành is laid in state at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Trần Thánh Tông Street, Hanoi.
The memorial service will be held from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM on February 12, 2026 (which is the 25th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake).
