U.S. wishes to balance trade ties with Vietnam

At the meeting, Mr. Christopher Klein highly appreciated the cooperation of VCCI in recent times. The two sides co-organized the Indo-Pacific Forum in Hanoi in 2020 with many contracts signed during the event; supporting policy development on PPP; and working together in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) project.

Mr. Christopher Klein also shared the U.S. priorities in the coming time, especially in assisting Vietnam in repelling the COVID-19 pandemic, coordinating the implementation of USAID programs and exchange activities in the fields of energy, health, and smart city development.

“We have supported Vietnam with six million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and will soon add another 2.5 million. When more people are vaccinated, life will quickly return to normal, production will be restored,” said Mr. Christopher Klein.

In the coming time, in order to promote Vietnam's investment in the U.S., Mr. Christopher Klein looks forward to receiving the cooperation of VCCI in selecting and inviting potential Vietnamese investors to attend the “Summit Select U.S.A Investment Summit 2022”, which is scheduled to be held in the United States in 2022.

The U.S. Chargé d'Affaires affirmed that the U.S. Government wishes to strongly promote economic relations, especially promoting a balanced trade relationship with Vietnam.

Noting the comments of the representative of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, VCCI President Pham Tan Cong thanked the U.S. for supporting Vietnam in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through the COVAX facility. The VCCI President continued to call for the support of the U.S. Government and businesses in providing additional vaccines to Vietnam in a timely manner, strengthening business cooperation in research, technology transfer, and vaccine production in Vietnam.

VCCI President said that to support businesses to overcome the pandemic, VCCI has established a Business Cooperation Council in response to COVID-19 connecting businesses, business associations, and central, local and international agencies to respond to the pandemic, limit  losses, maintain business operations, protect businesses, workers and economic activities.

VCCI also encourages the United States to increase investment in clean energy, renewable energy, infrastructure, finance and banking, digital transformation, which are high technology-demanding areas and are currently important to the realization of Vietnam's economic, social and environmental goals.

In addition, VCCI President Pham Tan Cong called for the cooperation of U.S. businesses in contributing to the development of legal policies in line with Vietnam's development practice and international practices.

Also within the framework of the working session, the representatives of VCCI called for the support of the Embassy and USAID in projects on Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Provincial Competitiveness Index (CPI), promoting the building of an environment-friendly business climate and sustainable public-private partnership in provinces and cities of Vietnam (Green Index), gender equality and female entrepreneurs empowerment.

On the business side, VietJet’s representative also underscored a good cooperation relationship with the U.S. market and looked forward to continuing to receive U.S. cooperation in the fields of pilot training and engine maintenance.
