VCCI - a reliable parter in fostering investment and trade

Over the years, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has been a reliable partner in fostering exchange, supporting trade promotion, and improving the overall business environment.

Our reporter had an exclusive interview with Mr. Alexander Ziehe, Chairman of the German Business Association (GBA) about these contents.

- How do you evaluate the activities of VCCI in recent years, especially in fostering cooperation between Vietnamese and foreign businesses in general, and German businesses in particular?

On behalf of the GBA, we are very grateful for the important and supportive role that VCCI has played in promoting business connectivity and facilitating dialogue between Vietnamese and international enterprises. Over the years, VCCI has been a reliable partner in fostering exchange, supporting trade promotion, and improving the overall business environment.

In particular, the business forums, policy dialogues, and trade missions organized by VCCI have strengthened the ties between Vietnamese and German companies. These efforts have helped foster mutual understanding, unlock new collaboration opportunities, and support sustainable investment flows between our two countries.

- Based on GBA’s experience, what programs or initiatives should VCCI implement to better support member businesses and enhance international integration?

From our perspective, VCCI already set a strong base, but shall keep strengthening its impact by focusing on three key areas:

First, enhancing sector-specific partnerships by building platforms that connect businesses with shared interests, especially in high-potential industries such as renewable energy, manufacturing, digital transformation, and green growth. In particular, between Vietnamese and German companies, we see many synergy potentials.

Second, expanding practical support programs for businesses, including regulatory updates, compliance guidance, and market intelligence, which are critical for foreign-invested enterprises navigating the Vietnamese market.

Third, deepening international collaboration by partnering more closely with foreign business associations to co-organize targeted networking events, policy dialogues, and capacity-building initiatives. This would further position Vietnam as an attractive and well-integrated investment destination.

- What key activities does GBA plan to organize this year to promote investment and trade connectivity in Vietnam?

In 2026, GBA will continue to actively promote investment and trade connectivity through a series of flagship events and strategic initiatives.

A key milestone for the year will be the launch and positioning of the first German Business Forum, scheduled for October, followed by the GBA Business Awards in November. These initiatives will highlight outstanding German–Vietnamese business cooperation, showcase innovation and impactful achievements, and reinforce Germany’s strong economic presence in Vietnam.

At the same time, we are expanding our presence in Northern and Central Vietnam. Through more consistent event schedules, stronger institutional partnerships, and targeted industry dialogues, we aim to deepen engagement across these regions. To support this expansion, GBA has appointed four dedicated representatives in key economic hubs, strengthening our local presence and responsiveness to the needs of the business community.

GBA Oktoberfest 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City will move to a new venue, allowing us to redesign the event layout and create a more festive and engaging experience. This marks an important step in enhancing the overall event format, broadening participation, and creating memorable experiences for our partners and sponsors.

In addition, we will organize sector-focused business meetings, networking events, and policy dialogues throughout the year to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen partnerships between German and Vietnamese companies.

GBA also remains committed to supporting our members through advocacy efforts, providing insights on regulatory developments, and fostering a strong, collaborative business community.

- What recommendations do you have for the Vietnamese government and relevant ministries in terms of institutional and policy reforms to enhance FDI attraction, particularly from Germany?

Vietnam has made significant progress in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), and we see strong continued interest from German investors. To further strengthen its position, we would recommend focusing on a few key areas.

Firstly, ensuring greater transparency, consistency, and predictability in the regulatory framework is essential to build long-term investor confidence.

Secondly, accelerating administrative reforms and simplifying procedures would help reduce operational burdens for businesses.

Thirdly, continued investment in infrastructure, skilled workforce development, and sustainable energy solutions will be critical to meet the expectations of high-quality investors, particularly from Germany.

Finally, maintaining open and regular dialogue with the business community, through platforms such as VCCI and foreign business associations, will be key to addressing challenges effectively and shaping a more competitive investment environment.

Respectfully thank you!
