VCCI changed its Vietnamese brand name to "Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry"

At the 7th National Congress of VCCI for the 2021–2026 tenure, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEABANK, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BRG Group, and member of the Executive Committee of VCCI, reported on the amendment of VCCI’s 2016 Charter.

Following the direction of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat in Official Dispatch No.13603-CV/VPTW dated October 23, 2020 by the Party Central Committee Office announcing the opinion of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat on organizing the 7^th VCCI National Congress for the 2021–2026 tenure, including the request to change the brand name of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and amend the VCCI Charter in accordance with the nature of a mass organization assigned by the Party and State", the Party Union and the Executive Committee of the VCCI for the VI tenure directed to evaluate the implementation of the current Charter, develop a project on renaming VCCI and amending the VCCI Charter as required by the Laws. 

Under the direction of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, on the basis of reviewing relevant legal provisions, especially new legal documents, and assessing the implementation of the 2016 Charter, VCCI finds it necessary to amend this Charter.  Through research and a survey to gather the opinions of VCCI members and experts, the term "Federation" is proposed to replace "Chamber" in the new Vietnamese brand name of VCCI, for the following reasons:

From a legal perspective, "Federation" is one of the terms used to name the association mentioned in Clause 2, Article 2 of Decree 45/2010/ND-CP stipulating the organization, management, and operation of the associations.

From a historical perspective, "Federation" was used in the Vietnamese brand name of the first organization of industry and trade after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born in 1945.

From a linguistic perspective, "Federation" is used for associations representing the rights and interests of their members.

From an international perspective, many countries, such as China, India, Korea, Japan, Singapore, etc also use "Federation" to name organizations representing businesses, equivalent to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The phrase "Vietnamese Trade and Industry" will be kept intact in the new Vietnamese brand name of VCCI to ensure the seamless and uninterrupted continuity of VCCI in all matters. The English brand name (Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and the abbreviation (VCCI) will remain unchanged in the VCCI’s new Charter.

After voting, the 7^th VCCI National Congress unanimously approved the VCCI’s new Vietnamese brand name: "Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry," and amended some articles in the VCCI’s new charter.
