At a time when the global economy is experiencing significant changes—from strategic competition among major economies and supply chain restructuring to digital and green transformation—APEC continues to affirm its role as the region’s leading mechanism for economic cooperation.
According to Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc, APEC 2027 has been identified by the Party, State, and Government leadership as a strategic opportunity to effectively implement the foreign policy direction set forth by the 14th National Party Congress, enhance Vietnam’s international standing and reputation, and create new momentum for socio-economic development, particularly for Phú Quốc, An Giang Province, and the Mekong Delta region.
The objective is to organize APEC 2027 on a scale commensurate with its significance while ensuring safety, effectiveness, quality, and the maximization of development opportunities. This is not only an important diplomatic event but also a major opportunity to strengthen cooperation in economics, trade, investment, culture, tourism, and international connectivity. The guiding principle throughout the preparation process is early planning, systematic implementation, scientific organization, and coordinated action, drawing upon the strength of the entire political system, the business community, and the public.
“Vietnam successfully hosted APEC in both 2006 and 2017, receiving high praise from the international community. This is both a source of pride and a responsibility, requiring that APEC 2027 be organized even more successfully,” the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister stated.
Regarding preparations for the content of the APEC 2027 Leaders’ Summit, the Permanent Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that this is a task of special importance. Drawing on Vietnam’s experience in hosting two previous APEC years and participating in APEC meetings abroad, the country should develop themes, agendas, and initiatives for the Leaders’ Week that are substantive and impactful.
Preparations in terms of human resources, communications, mobilization of socialized resources, and the application of technology to create products bearing a distinct Vietnamese identity should continue to be strengthened.
The Permanent Deputy Prime Minister stressed that preparations for APEC 2027 must fully reflect the directives of Party, State, and Government leaders; assign the right people to the right tasks; clearly define timelines, deliverables, and responsibilities; strengthen administrative discipline and accountability; proactively coordinate efforts to resolve difficulties as they arise; and prevent any delays or overlaps in implementation.
Preparations must be carried out comprehensively across all areas, ensuring close and effective coordination among subcommittees, ministries, sectors, and local authorities, while assigning specific responsibilities to each agency and organization. “If any stage, sector, or agency fails to perform effectively, it will affect the overall outcome,” Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc emphasized.
