VCCI's new vision and mission for a strong business community

April 27, 59 years ago, went down in Vietnamese economic and business history when the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) was established. Having undergone many twists and turns, VCCI has now set a new vision and mission and created stronger professional development motivation.

PM Pham Minh Chinh attends the 7th National Congress of VCCI, which sets a clear vision and mission toward a strong business community.

Notably, in the past years, despite confronting numerous difficulties and challenges, especially the COVID-19 pandemic impacts, VCCI has successfully accomplished its goals and tasks and made many outstanding achievements in improving institutions, the business investment environment at central and provincial levels, and advancing international integration and business support.

VCCI has made great efforts to implement Party and State guidelines and policies, jointly develop the Vietnamese business community, and actively support stable and sustainable economic growth. The country had about 850,000 enterprises by the end of 2021, nearly double the number in 2015. Many enterprises grew steadily, becoming on par with those in the region and around the world. The economy also showed impressive growth, usually ranked among the best performers in the world. People's living standards kept improving constantly.

VCCI’s position and prestige have been enhanced both nationally and internationally. VCCI is regarded by the international business community as one of the most dynamic Chambers of Commerce and Industry among developing economies, and is a strong partner in the community of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and trade- investment promotion agencies in the world.

VCCI President Pham Tan Cong said, "Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: Our country has never had the opportunity, potential, position, and prestige as it has today." The Vietnamese business community and VCCI are proud of their part in the country's new position and structure.

In particular, the 7th National Congress of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2021–2026 term), held on December 30 and 31, 2021, took place in the context that businesses were facing great opportunities as well as unprecedented challenges.

At this congress, delegates unanimously adopted the VCCI Charter amendment. The congress voted to elect the VCCI Executive Committee and the VCCI Inspectorate (2021–2026 term).

VCCI participates in many international events related to economic integration, enterprise development, investment promotion and trade facilitation.

The Congress recognized that the next term and the new development phase of the country will be challenging and difficult, with unpredictable fluctuations from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, VCCI needs a change from vision to working content to improve its role and effectiveness as a national representative agency and supporter of the Vietnamese business community. The congress expressed its deep confidence in the leadership of the Party, the Government and the National Assembly in realizing the national goals and aspirations for development as stated in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

VCCI’s vision and mission in the new national development phase are "Strong business community-Mighty nation." This is the mission of linking and working towards sustainable, culturally integrated, world-class businesses and business associations.

The congress also defined six key tasks: actively participating in policy and lawmaking and facilitating the business environment; promoting and improving the quality of business development support; enhancing business and membership connection and expansion; developing entrepreneurs and promoting Vietnam's business culture development; strengthening international connectivity and integration; renovating organizations and operating methods; and improving the capacity and efficiency of VCCI.

The congress also adopted three strategic breakthroughs: fostering a favorable business environment, proactively building the Vietnamese business culture, and accelerating digital transformation in business.

VCCI President Cong affirmed, "The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry will always be a supporter and a common roof for businesses, a voice for businesses with the Party, the Government and society, a nucleus of the business community, empowering connectivity to establish a community of cooperation, mutual assistance, and joint development in a united manner."

Needless to say, more than ever, standing before business needs and before the command of economic recovery and development, the business community needs "Unity - Innovation - Creativity - Responsibility" to carry out national aspirations of turning Vietnam into a developed country. With the vision of "strong business community, mighty nation", placing business role and responsibility at the heart of the economy, VCCI will always spur business community development, and unite to make the "heart" strong to pump enthusiasm to nourish the "body" of the national economy for sustainable development.
