Comrade To Lam re-elected as Party General Secretary
The 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam unanimously elected Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee as Party General Secretary for the new term.
This morning (January 23), the first meeting of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam held a session to elect the Politburo, the General Secretary, the Party Secretariat, the Central Inspection Commission, and the Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission.
The 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam unanimously elected Comrade To Lam to continue serving as Party General Secretary for the new term.
Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, convened the conference, delivered the opening speech, and on behalf of the Presidium, chaired the conference.
Based on the strict implementation of the Party Charter, working regulations, election regulations, and related contents, promoting the spirit of unity and responsibility to the highest degree, and effectively implementing the principle of democratic centralism, the first meeting of the 14th Central Committee of the Party successfully completed the particularly important tasks: electing the Politburo, General Secretary, and Party Secretariat.
The conference also heard reports on the proposed appointments for key leaders in the Party and State, and provided feedback on the personnel for the position of Standing Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee.
Next, the Central Committee elected the Central Inspection Commission and the Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission.

General Secretary To Lam was born in 1957 in Hung Yen province. He is a member of the Central Committee of the Party for the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th terms; a member of the Politburo for the 12th and 13th terms; and a National Assembly delegate for the 14th and 15th terms.
He had a long career working in the Public Security force and served as Minister of Public Security for eight years before being elected State President in May 2024.
After holding this position for three months, he also served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam from August 3, 2024 to October 21, 2024. Then, he resigned as State President and has continued as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam until now.
