Just go to Ca Mau cape

At present, you can drive straight to the cape of Ca Mau with extreme experiences, but mustn’t go by the waterway for more than an hour along the fast-flowing Cai River.

Ca Mau cape has many changes because the road has reached the southernmost part of our country.

In early 2019, a new road connected Nam Can district with the southernmost part of Vietnam- Ca Mau cape, marking a new step of Ca Mau in traffic and tourism development. If in the past, travelers had to go to Ca Mau cape by boat or canoe on the river, today you can conquer this place by car or motorbike via 50km road.

The opening of a road to Ca Mau cape was planned by Ca Mau province for a long time, but the implementation of this project takes many years. Because Ca Mau’s previous traffic system was entirely by the interlaced river system, people's lives depended on the river and the sea. Every family has one or two boats as means of travel. People go from place to place entirely by boat.

The bridges to Ca Mau cape as well as the 50km road from Nam Can to Ca Mau cape have opened the door for travel to Ca Mau cape. There are no houses and few people on either side of the road, because Ca Mau residents have the habit of living on the river. However, there are a few rest spots for travelers. Mangrove forests are seen as a specialty of Ca Mau cape. Mangroves are everywhere, they invaded the sea and kept the land. The Ca Mau people said that "Mam tree (Avicennia) goes first, mangroves follow, melaleuca ranked third" to talk about the most typical species of Ca Mau cape. The Mam tree is close to the sea to break the waves and block the invading sea. When Mam tree is firm with countless roots that pierce the seawater and then rise up to grow into seedlings, the mangroves follow. The mangroves have a very strong root system and are stretched down. The mangroves grow quickly, hold the soil well but still rank only behind the Mam tree. And finally, the melaleuca tree lies deeper, attracting all kinds of birds.

The green color of mangroves and the glittering light of the sky reflected on the calm mangrove fields. With favorable traffic and bridges, everything will have a chance to flourish. Now you don’t need to take a boat for more than an hour to reach Ca Mau cape, but the bustling life on the river still takes place here. Camau people have more motorbikes because the road has been opened to each house; even though only two motorbikes could avoid each other on the road, it is much more convenient to travel. The river road remains available because Ca Mau has many canals, many families do not have roads. However, in the near future, roads will be opened, ensuring the travel of Ca Mau people both by waterway and road.

Actually, Ca Mau cape has many changes because the road has reached the southernmost part of our country. From here, we could walk into the Ho Chi Minh Road Milestone on the windy sea. In the midst of the burning sun, the salty scent of the sea, you will feel indescribable. Here is the southernmost part of our country! This is the 2nd time I came to this place. The Ho Chi Minh Road Milestone is more spacious. The Hanoi flagpole - the highest point for panoramic views of the Southerpost part of Vietnam, was put into operation since May 2021, and many homestays have opened to welcome travelers. From this height, you can see the road across the river and the sea along with the southernmost part of our country. You will have a trip through the interlaced canals of Ca Mau cape to see the beautiful sunset on the sea.

After watching the sunset, we came back to a homestay by a longboat. We had dinner in a cool space with the famous Ca Mau crab. Then, the homestay host took us to catch crabs. Our boat kept weaving in the canal, the flashlight flickering back and forth in the dark night. Quietly, the crabs under the root of mangroves were captured. After a few hours on the water, under a gorgeous starry sky, we had a bucket full of fish, crabs for tomorrow's breakfast.

Lying in a hammock and listening to Aunt Nam and Aunt Bay talking about the history of Ca Mau cape, we don’t know what time we fell asleep .

Although Ca Mau cape has strongly changed, but Ca Mau people are still honest and idyllic. Leaving Ca Mau with a few pounds of shrimp, a few dried snakehead fish, we can’t forget this land.
