Much Room to Reinforce Vietnam-UAE Ties

The establishment of a business council, cooperation in Information Technology (IT) and agriculture, and activities to be held on the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations were among the topics of discussion between President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Pham Tan Cong and Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi on the latter’s recent working visit to VCCI.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi said that the UAE looks forward to greater coordination with VCCI in promoting deeper penetration of Vietnamese commodities in the global market, including the Middle East and North Africa markets. “The council is expected to elevate the exceptional relationships between the UAE and Vietnam,” said the UAE Ambassador.

The UAE ambassador also suggested cooperation between the two countries in agriculture and IT. He said the UAE expected to sign an MOU on Food Diversity and seek opportunities in the IT sector.

The UAE ambassador also expected the critical support of VCCI President Pham Tan Cong for an important trade agreement that is projected to be signed by the end of this year.

VCCI President Pham Tan Cong expressed his happiness to see the growing bilateral trade. In 2022, the trade value between the two countries reached US$8.8 billion, making Vietnam and UAE among the strongest partners in the region.

Confirming that the UAE is the largest export market of Vietnam in the Middle East-North Africa region, VCCI President Cong recommended many Vietnamese products for the UAE market and would introduce the UAE delegation to big food processing companies of Vietnam when they come to sign the MOU on Food Security.

“Vietnam is considered an important hub in tandem with a reputation in terms of geo-political location, modern infrastructure, world-class logistics services, and high ranking competitive index; I hope that more Vietnamese products will be exported to foreign markets via the UAE,” said Mr. Cong.

With regards to establishing a business council between the two countries, VCCI President also expressed his approval and would seek the consideration of the Vietnam government as well.

On this occasion, the UAE Ambassador H.E. Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi informed that WLP delegations would come to Vietnam on February 27. WLP is a global freight loyalty program that aims to boost trade by improving efficiency and reducing costs for traders and freight forwarders.

“WLP will sign MOUs with Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam Railways and Vietnam Coffee Cocoa Associations (VICOFA) on 28 February, and with Vietjet Air, Saigon New Port, Lotus Port, and Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) in March,” detailed the UAE Ambassador.

He also said the Fifth Session of the Joint Committee for Cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE was scheduled to be organized by the end of this year. “Currently, the embassy is preparing MOUs, agreements for signing, and events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1993-2023),” added the Ambassador.
