Phong Sinh Logistics: Navigating Headwinds with Resilience

Phong Sinh is an example of the resilience and ambitions for growth in Vietnam's private sector, having persevered during the epidemic and risen to prominence in international supply chains.

The industrial hub of northern Vietnam, Bac Ninh Province, is expanding rapidly, and it is now common to see never-ending lines of container trucks travelling day and night. Phong Sinh Production and Trade Co., Ltd. has become a prominent example of resilience in the face of hardship within this flow.

Few people are aware that the company's current seamless operations are the result of a protracted and difficult journey during which it had to constantly adjust to unprecedented market upheavals and changing global conditions.

Mr. Tran Van Phong, Director of Phong Sinh Manufacturing and Trading Co., Ltd., shares in an interview with Business Forum Magazine.

Resilience in the face of headwinds

Founded in 2020, at the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Phong Sinh entered the market under exceptionally challenging circumstances. Transport activities were disrupted, supply chains fractured, operating costs surged, while access to customers became increasingly constrained.

This was not only a financial challenge but also a test of the resilience of a young enterprise. Recalling that period, Mr. Trần Văn Phong, Director of the company, shared: “There were times when it felt impossible to hold on. Trucks were idle, contracts were suspended, yet costs still had to be covered. But if we had stopped, all previous efforts would have been lost.”

In such difficult circumstances, Phong Sinh chose not to scale down or withdraw, but to transform. From management thinking to operational execution, the company proactively reviewed all activities, cut unnecessary costs, and optimized every trip and route.

These seemingly small decisions became critical levers that enabled the company to sustain operations during the most challenging period.

Phong Sinh Logistics operates a fleet of nearly 100 container trucks and employs hundreds of professional drivers, continuously enhancing its capabilities to support FDI enterprises within global supply chains

At the same time, Phong Sinh prioritized retaining its workforce, drivers and dispatch staff who had been with the company since its early days. The company understood that human capital is the foundation of sustainable development.

Adversity, in turn, became a crucible that strengthened the company’s resilience. From that foundation, Phong Sinh gradually matured and built its reputation in the market.

Gradually establishing its brand

After more than six years of operation, from a startup born in the eye of the storm, Phong Sinh has expanded its fleet to nearly 100 container trucks, becoming a logistics partner for major FDI enterprises in Bắc Ninh Province such as Samsung, Foxconn, and Canon.

Its presence in the supply chains of multinational corporations marks not only a development milestone but also reflects the adaptability and professionalism of Vietnamese enterprises.

However, as the pandemic subsided, a new landscape emerged with its own set of challenges. Heightened geopolitical tensions have driven up the prices of raw materials and fuel, particularly gasoline and diesel, which account for a significant share of transport costs, placing considerable pressure on logistics companies.

“Input costs are rising while service prices cannot be adjusted proportionately, forcing businesses to calculate very carefully. Without changes in management thinking, it is easy to fall into a passive position,” Mr. Phong noted.

In this context, Phong Sinh has continued along the same path that helped it weather earlier difficulties: proactive adaptation. The company has accelerated the application of technology in operations management, improved vehicle utilization efficiency, and strengthened partnerships to stabilize cargo volumes.

Alongside these efforts, compliance with legal regulations, particularly in taxation and transport has become increasingly critical. However, for many small and medium-sized enterprises, keeping up with new regulations remains a challenge.

Drawing from operational experience, Mr. Phong expressed a desire to participate more in training programs on legal and tax compliance, as well as to receive greater legal support and development guidance.

“Businesses need to be equipped with knowledge to operate in compliance, mitigate risks, and achieve sustainable growth,” he said.

Government support as a cornerstone

As Bac Ninh continues its transformation into a modern industrial center, the private sector is increasingly affirming its role as a key driver of economic growth. In particular, logistics enterprises, the “arteries” of the economy, quietly but persistently connect production with markets, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of goods.

Mr. Tran Van Phong currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Kép Commune Business Association in Bac Ninh Province for the 2025–2030 term.

However, in a volatile economic environment, corporate resilience cannot rely solely on internal strength. More than ever, effective government support serves as a crucial anchor, helping businesses navigate market fluctuations.

Sharing his view, Mr. Tran Van Phong stated: “We hope that the Bac Ninh provincial authorities will continue to introduce more practical support policies, especially by streamlining administrative procedures in a faster and more transparent manner, thereby creating favorable conditions for businesses to invest and grow with confidence over the long term.”

This also reflects the broader voice of the local business community, the “cells” of the economy that operate tirelessly day and night, sustaining growth momentum and contributing to social stability.

And perhaps, in every truck still rolling along the routes connecting Bắc Ninh with major production centers, more than just goods are being transported. There is also trust in an increasingly open business environment, in meaningful government support, and in a Vietnamese business community with the resilience and ambition to go further in its journey of global integration.
