Tran Thanh Man re-elected Chairman of the 16th National Assembly
At the first session of the 16th National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly, was once again elected by the legislature to serve as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for the 16th tenure.
On the morning of April 6, with 100% of the attending deputies voting in favour, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly and a deputy to the 16th National Assembly, as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam for the 16th tenure.
During the oath-taking ceremony at Dien Hong Hall in the National Assembly House, under the sacred red flag with a yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly, the people and voters nationwide, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man swore: “To remain absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the people and to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam; to strive to fulfil to the best of my ability the tasks entrusted to me by the Party, the State and the people.”
On behalf of the Party and State leadership and deputies of the 16th National Assembly, Party General Secretary To Lam presented flowers to congratulate Tran Thanh Man on his election as Chairman of the 16th National Assembly.
Tran Thanh Man was born on August 12, 1962, and is from Thanh Xuan Commune, Can Tho City. He holds a doctorate in economics and a bachelor’s degree in politics.
He was an alternate member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th tenure; a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th tenures; a member of the Secretariat in the 12th tenure; a Politburo member in the 13th and 14th tenures; and a deputy to the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th National Assembly.
Continuing its personnel work at the session, this afternoon the National Assembly will carry out procedures to elect the following positions: Vice Chairmen of the National Assembly, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Chairman of the Ethnic Council, chairpersons of National Assembly committees, the State Auditor General, and the Secretary General of the National Assembly, who also serves as Chairman of the National Assembly Office.
At its first session, the 16th National Assembly is expected to elect and approve the appointment of around 39 senior State leadership positions at the central level. Tomorrow, the National Assembly will carry out procedures to elect the State President and the Prime Minister for the new term.
