VCCI to set up Business Cooperation Council in response to COVID-19

On September 17, 2021, the President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) signed a decision to establish the Business Cooperation Council in response to COVID-19.

VCCI President Pham Tan Cong said: "Supporting and going with the business community to overcome COVID-19 crisis is an urgent task for VCCI."

The Council is a cooperation mechanism between VCCI with governmental agencies, and domestic and international organizations, business associations, and the business community in response to COVID-19. Businesses and business associations consult and engage in Council-led activities on a voluntary basis.

The Chairman of the Council is Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Secretary of the VCCI Party Union, VCCI President, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform of the Prime Minister. The Vice-Chairmen of the Council include Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Central Economic Commission, Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, VCCI Vice President, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA). The permanent members of the Council include leaders of businesses and business associations, and representatives of ministries and sectors: the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transport, the State Bank of Vietnam, VTV, and VOV… The Head of the Secretariat of the Council is Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, General Secretary of VCCI.

The Council’s key tasks include promptly reflecting difficulties of the business comminity; proposing policies and solutions to competent central and local authorities in response to COVID-19; connecting and supporting businesses in response to COVID-19; sharing response information, experiences, and solutions of enterprises to emerging matters caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; supporting businesses to update new regulations of the State related to the COVID-19 epidemic while surveying and grasping the implementation of policies in localities and sectors; Implementing propaganda and encouragement activities for businesses and society in the fight against COVID-19; proposing commendations of outstanding enterprises in the fight against COVID-19 and in business performance; raising resources for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic across the country and in the business community.

"In the next week, the Council will launch an online interactive platform (Workplace) operating around the clock so that businesses can promptly reflect on difficulties as well as propose recommendations to central and local authorities in response to COVID-19. Through this platform, the Council will provide advice and guidance to businesses, and at the same time allows them to share information, experiences, and solutions to cope with the impacts of the COVID-19 epidemic. This platform will act as a bridge for businesses to trade and support each other during the pandemic." - VCCI President Pham Tan Cong said.
