Agricultural exports to the EU grow thanks to the EVFTA
The Viet Nam–EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is creating strong growth opportunities for exports of Viet Nam’s agricultural products, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
According to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, in the first nine months of 2025, Viet Nam’s shrimp export value to the EU reached 434 million USD, up 21% year-on-year. Notably, shrimp exports to the market in September alone grew sharply by 48%. With the EVFTA, many shrimp product categories benefit from a 0% tariff rate, boosting the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in this market.
In addition, Viet Nam has a network of processing factories that meet European standards, with many facilities granted export codes for the EU, forming a strong foundation for Vietnamese shrimp to further penetrate the supply chains of European supermarket systems and distribution channels.
For wood and wood products, statistics show that Viet Nam’s furniture continues to expand its market share in the EU thanks to its strong capacity to meet requirements on quality, design and sustainability. This creates opportunities for further growth of Vietnamese wood exports to the EU, especially as the EVFTA continues to offer competitive advantages in tariffs and market access.
In the first eight months of 2025, Viet Nam was the EU’s second-largest non-bloc supplier, reaching about 440.8 million USD, an increase of 16.7% compared with the same period.
Coffee exports to the EU have also seen strong growth. In Germany, during the first eight months of 2025, Viet Nam was the second-largest coffee supplier, exporting 190,100 tonnes worth 1.11 billion USD — an increase of 11.6% in volume and 88.7% in value year-on-year. Viet Nam’s market share in Germany’s total coffee imports rose from 21.36% in the first eight months of 2024 to 24.28% in the same period of 2025.
