Hung Yen Power Company: A digital transformation push and the aspiration to rise in a new era

For Hung Yen Power Company, the journey of digitalization is more than just a technological upgrade — it is a revolution in management thinking, creating strong momentum to ensure a stable power supply for the socio-economic development of the province.

Hung Yen Power Company (PC Hung Yen) bears the responsibility of managing a vast service area, serving a massive customer base, and meeting the growing electricity demand of rapidly expanding industrial hubs.

Leaders of Hung Yen Power Company commend outstanding customers for their active cooperation in ensuring power supply reliability in 2025.

The Company’s leadership has identified digital transformation as the “key” placed at the center of all operations, from technical management and customer services to internal administration.

Digital Ecosystem - A Breakthrough in Customer Services

One of PC Hung Yen’s most remarkable achievements lies in completely transforming the way it interacts with customers. By the end of 2025, the Company had recorded impressive milestones that would have seemed far beyond reach just a few years ago.

The first breakthrough was the revolution in electricity metering. With strong determination, the Company completed the installation and commissioning of 1,250,793 remote automatic electronic meters, achieving a 100% coverage rate. This allows customers to monitor their daily electricity consumption through mobile applications, forming the core foundation of a transparent and modern electricity market.

PC Hung Yen has also re-signed 100% of its electricity purchase agreements on the Customer Management Information System (CMIS), totaling nearly 1.25 million contracts for both residential and non-residential customers.

hrough extensive cooperation with major banks such as Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), along with e-wallet platforms including VNPay, MoMo, and Viettel Money, PC Hung Yen has enabled online electricity bill payment for 100% of its customers. This has helped reduce costs while providing maximum convenience for residents and businesses alike.

Smart Grid - The “Heart” of industrial infrastructure

Hung Yen is emerging as one of Vietnam’s leading industrial provinces, with 57 industrial parks, 114 industrial clusters, and eight major urban areas currently under development, all of which have registered electricity demand for the 2026 - 2030 period. To meet the stringent requirements of major investors, especially foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises, PC Hung Yen has accelerated the development of a smart grid system.

The Company proactively works with investors of industrial parks, industrial clusters, and urban developments with large electricity demand in order to grasp their power consumption requirements, project schedules, and load forecasts. This enables timely additions to the provincial power development plan, serving as the basis for load forecasting and infrastructure investment.

At the same time, the Company has consistently prioritized investment, renovation, upgrading, and expansion of the power grid in accordance with the provincial power development plan under the principle of “electricity infrastructure going one step ahead.”

In 2025 alone, nine 110kV grid projects were commissioned, while another three 110kV projects entered operation during the first four months of 2026. As a result, the total installed capacity of 110kV substations across the province reached 4,209 MVA, with the Pmax-to-transformer installed capacity ratio standing at 47.9%.

These investments have ensured stable electricity supply capacity, particularly for industrial parks, industrial clusters, and urban areas according to planned schedules. They have also improved power quality, reduced transmission losses, minimized operational incidents, and enhanced overall power supply reliability, thereby contributing significantly to the province’s socio-economic development.

Currently, 18 additional 110kV grid projects are under implementation across the province. According to the power development plan, these projects are scheduled to become operational during 2026–2027 to meet the electricity demands of businesses and residents.

In terms of smart grid development, the Company has accelerated grid automation through systems such as SCADA and RF/PLC remote metering, improved power supply reliability by reducing SAIDI and SAIFI indicators, and enhanced monitoring, warning, and rapid incident response capabilities.

In operations management, the application of software platforms such as GIS/PMIS for map-based grid management, OMS for outage management, and ECP for occupational safety control has created a more scientific and efficient working environment. Data on substations, pole coordinates, and conductor types have all been fully digitized and standardized.

As a result, load forecasting has become more accurate, enabling the power sector to “stay one step ahead” in infrastructure investment and prevent localized power shortages in rapidly growing areas such as Yen My, Van Giang, and My Hao.

Coordination Between the Provincial Power Sector and Local Authorities

Since 2020, Hung Yen Province has prioritized infrastructure development, particularly electricity infrastructure, to meet investment attraction requirements and promote local economic growth. Stable power supply and power quality are regarded as key factors enabling large industrial parks, industrial clusters, and urban areas to operate efficiently.

Cooperation between PC Hung Yen and provincial departments, agencies, and local authorities plays an important role in planning and developing the power grid in sync with industrial development planning.

From 2025 to the present, PC Hung Yen has implemented numerous key power projects aimed at supplying electricity to industrial parks, industrial clusters, large urban developments, and residential areas throughout the province.

The Company is investing trillions of Vietnamese dong in developing the 110kV grid system, contributing to the national target program for new rural development in Hung Yen Province for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050. These investments aim to improve power supply reliability and ensure adequate electricity supply for new urban areas and major industrial parks.

At the same time, PC Hung Yen has worked closely with provincial departments and local authorities to prioritize power grid projects serving key economic zones, large-scale industrial parks, industrial clusters, and urban developments with high registered electricity demand that require urgent additional power sources.

Numerous new 110kV substations and transmission lines have been planned to ensure electricity supply for key loads in Hai Long Industrial Park, Hung Phu Industrial Park, and localities including Dong Tien Hai, Dong Chau, Tien Hai, Nam Cuong, Hung Phu, Bac Dong Hung, Dong Quan, Yen My, Van Giang, and My Hao Ward, thereby supporting the broader economic development of Hung Yen Province.

Notably, the province has commissioned the Yen My 220kV Substation and interconnected transmission lines, creating a strong power supply source for the province’s central industrial zone.

In addition, PC Hung Yen has invested heavily in medium- and low-voltage grids. From 2025 up to now, the Company has newly built and upgraded 307.8 kilometers of medium-voltage lines and 1,127 kilometers of low-voltage lines, while constructing 249 distribution substations. Many additional projects involving recloser installations and medium- and low-voltage capacitor banks have also been implemented.

Thanks to expanded infrastructure, the Company has basically been able to meet annual load growth of 8–9%, with demand surging by as much as 10–12% during peak summer periods.

The close coordination between the power sector in general, and PC Hung Yen in particular, with provincial departments and local authorities has served as a bridge connecting electricity infrastructure with the province’s economic development goals. This cooperation has contributed to improving Hung Yen’s Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), enhancing the investment environment, and turning the province into one of Vietnam’s bright spots for investment attraction.

Future Vision and Aspirations

Although PC Hung Yen has achieved many encouraging initial results, significant challenges still lie ahead. The vast service area and the sharp increase in electricity demand, rising by 10 - 12% during hot seasons, require continuous effort and innovation.

In the coming period, the Company will focus on improving the quality of its digital workforce and promoting interaction in the digital space through customer care applications, enabling every citizen to “connect” with the power sector more conveniently than ever before.

Close coordination with provincial departments and agencies in synchronizing electricity infrastructure planning with urban and industrial development planning will remain a top priority.

Today’s flow of electricity not only brings light to every home, but also carries powerful digital signals, illuminating Hung Yen’s aspiration to become a modern, civilized, and prosperous industrial province. For PC Hung Yen, digital transformation is the shortest path toward customer satisfaction and sustainable business development in the digital era.
